Three kids under six, in-laws from the UK, 2500km to travel and both islands to see in 16 days. Can it be done? Of course it can. It’s another Knight adventure.
When planning our itinerary, I knew it would be tight. However, we are not ones to time waste and with summer time and daylight savings, plus the kids being early risers, we knew we could take advantage of much travelling time in a day. Rest assured, it wasn’t all huge driving distances (a maximum of around 5 hours) and at few cities on route we had a multi-night stop meaning we were not always in the car.
The car by the way, was an eight seater Toyota Previa, or a Tarago in Australian terms.
It was comfortable enough and once we had arranged our car seats (brought over with us) just so, we were able to accommodate all seven of us with reasonable comfort. There was a bit of a method in getting in and out but that was all part of the fun.
Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be detailing what we did at each port of call so you can follow our adventure and give you some inspiration for planning your own road trip in New Zealand.
